Electric and Magnetic-Field-Induced Formation of Macrostructures in Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals

Background and Objectives: The study of ferroelectric liquid crystals in smectic C* phase fits together several most relevant research areas, including electro-optic devices with response time in the range of 10 μs. A distinguishing feature of smectic C* liquid crystals is its chiral layered structure, which is formed due to the center of masses orientational ordering along the preferred orientation [called the director].

Influence of Argon Pressure on Texture and Microstructure of Cobalt Films Produced by Dc-Sputtering

Background and Objectives: The development of methods of textured Co film formation is of practical interest in the field of creating media with perpendicular recording of information or lateral spin-valve structures. Despite a rather wide study of the growth conditions effects on the microcrystalline structure of sputtered cobalt films, the possibility of changing the texture and microstructure via a change of the gas pressure has not been discussed.

Influence of Sm Impurity Atoms on the Switching Effect in Thin Films of GeS

Background and Objectives: Nowadays interest has grown considerably to AivBvi type semiconductor media. Among them there is a special interest to the thin photosensitive films of germanium mono-sulfide. So, GeS thin layers have the ability to contain a large number of lithium ions. Therefore, it is possible to prepare the items: solar cells and super condenser. There are no limitations for practical applications of GeS crystal. Prospects of such semiconductor films are determined by the possibility of holographic recording and effects of switching and memory.

Calculation of Thermal Parameters and Technology of Formation MPL Microwave Range

The calculation of thermal parameters of super-high frequency microstrip microwave is performed. Calculations showed, that the high thermal conductivity of a diamond enables effective removal of heat from the active zone of microstrip microwave, increasing the output power up to 50 W at 3 GHz frequency without compromising the frequency characteristics of microstrip microwave.

Application of Thin Film Structures Based on Amorphous Silicon for pH Measurements in Solutions

Formation possibility of pH-sensor based on amorphous silicon thin films is shown. The principle of sensor operation is similar to the ionselective field effect transistor. Change of the investigated solution pH leads to change of depletion width and conductivity of amorphous silicon thin film structure.
